St Saviour's Reservoir Sunset

St Saviour's Reservoir Sunset

THE classic view of St Saviour's Reservoir, Guernsey, with the dam on the horizon and trees close to the near shore framing the shot perfectly. I had almost given up hope of any light this evening. The sun had dropped with little interest in the sky and, just as I was contemplating packing away, the sky erupted in vibrant reds and purples - proof that you should never turn your back on a sunset!

Work to create the reservoir began pre-WWII, in 1936. It was only after the German occupation ended and peace returned to the island that work was finally completed on the dam in January, 1947. It only took three months to fill!
